Rubber Band Brain

A rubber band stretches 
across the brain
causing slight,
mild pain.


But then.


It's night
head hits the pillow
the band snaps
thoughts held back
tumble forward
with the force 
of a tsunami.


And yet.


The hands of the clock
manage to move
the night continues.

Star Gazing

A blanket thrown across 
the sky
scatterings of white 
glowing
more occurring
the more you look. 


For the first time
constellations 
are clear
sometimes things like this
can make you feel small
wonder why you're here
but this once
it's not powerless
but majestic.


You're part of it
not in control
but if you feel as small
as a star in the night
the bigger picture
is still being added to.
